On Friday I made a big update/upgrade on the SocialPress network including a new theme.  SocialPress members can now Tweet directly from SocialPress to Twitter and also send Facebook updates from SocialPress to Facebook.

Underneath your status update, forum comments, etc – you can tick the boxes “to facebook” and “to twitter” and it will send your message to your Twitter and Facebook account.  You can select in your profile settings to include a link to your SocialPress profile as well.

The new theme on SocialPress allows for more more interaction between members and a “Favourite” section where members can select any forum post, group, link, status update, etc as their favourite for reference. Another great feature is that SocialPress members that created blogs can now create blog posts without leaving the the front theme of SocialPress.

As you know, SocialPress is a business network that is fun and easy to use.  Find a couple of benefits of using this social network below.

Activity Stream: SocialPress features global, personal and group activity streams with threaded commenting, direct posting, favoriting and @mentions. All with full RSS feed and email notification support.

Links: Create Links (’social bookmarks’) of your favourite web content and others can comment and vote for your links. This is a drop in link and rich media sharing component.

Twitter: Setup your Twitter account with SocialPress to allow for Tweeting from SocialPress to Twitter. You can also Tweet directly from Twitter to SocialPress by using the #SocialPress filter in your Tweet.

Facebook: Setup your Facebook account with SocialPress to allow for Facebook status updates from SocialPress to Facebook. You can also post directly from Facebook to SocialPress by using the #SocialPress filter in your message.

Friend connections: Members can make connections with other members and track their activity on the SocialPress network. SocialPress features a filter component to make sure you only view what you want to view.

Groups and Forums: SocialPress members can create niche groups and full powered discussion forums built directly into groups allowing for more conventional in-depth conversations.

Blogs: SocialPress members can create a free blog on the SocialPress network and choose from a range of themes available. All the SocialPress blogs can be found on the blogs directory.

Private Messaging: Private messaging allows members to talk to each other directly, and in private. Not just limited to one on one discussions, members can send messages to multiple recipients.

You can register for free at SocialPress.

Entrepreneurs and small businesses have an advantage over medium to big sized businesses. They are flexible, fast and they can usually make quick decisions without the bureaucracy that many big companies suffers from.

It is the ability to take action and make decisions that makes blogging work so well for small-sized businesses.  Blog marketing is a powerful way for a small-sized business to interact and reach potential customers.

Why small businesses should be blogging?

Low cost: Blogs can offer a low-cost way for businesses to get a presence online socially. Most small businesses does not have a website or an online presence. Blogs allows a business to create an online presence at a lower cost than a custom website without the need to learn all the technical jargon surrounding HTML.

Content is king: The focus of a blog should always be about the message and not the flashy design. Blogs are about reaching targeted audiences with a message that they will find interesting and useful. It could be about opinions, news, FAQ’s, the latest industry trends or just simple how to advice.

Blogs are fast: Blogs broadcast new content via RSS (Real Simple Syndication) across the web. This is exactly the same technology that allows news stories to be published and found within minutes of a news story breaking. Normal websites wait for the search engine spiders to discover their content while blogs broadcasts their message actively.

Trust: People usually trusts the content from blogs that comes from individuals more than from large corporations or mainstream news channels. Many people will search and read content from a number of different blogs and then draw their own conclusion. Blogs allows small businesses to voice their messages online.

Optimization: By adding a blog to your business website can help improve the overall organic search engine rankings for your website. All you have to do is write blog posts with keyword rich content. Blogs are an excellent SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tool that professional SEO marketers use.

People still read blogs, you are practically reading one right at this moment. Blogging is an excellent method to grow your small business.

source: http://www.antonrsa.co.za/social-media/listen-at-the-buzz-before-start-your-social-media-marketing-campaign/

You have read everything regarding the hype of social media and you have a fairly good understanding of the words Tweet, blog, Web 2.0, micro blogging and social networking. Where and how do you start your Social Media Marketing (SMM) initiative? What is going to be your first step? Getting a blog? Engaging on networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or YouTube?

Before you jump into any of these social media tools and channels, setup listening tools first to understand what is being said about your brand, company, your key executives or just to view what is the “buzz” online at the moment. It is important that you will need to understand how people are feeling towards your brand before you start to engage with your customers and any future prospects.

What voices in your industry and niche are the most influential? On what social media channels are you going to establish your presence to target where the active discussion are taking place? These questions should always be asked before you start with any Social Media Marketing (SMM) initiative.

What is being said?

By monitoring “what is being said” allows your company to respond and be pro active to any complaints in as little as 10 minutes after they have been posted online. By actively viewing and monitoring any social media involvement about your company can develop a strong reputation of reaching out to help your customers. By responding quickly to negative and positive criticism, you are more likely to convert bad complaints into product evangelists.

Social media monitoring tools to help you monitor your market

  • SaidWot: An innovative Media & Brand Monitoring, Online Reputation Management & Strategy Tool. This is a paid service.
  • Trackur: This tool monitors all the major search engines and the entry price starts at $18 per month.

By listening at the “buzz” online should always be your first step when plunging into any SMM campaign as this can help you on where to start and what is happening at the moment. What is the “buzz” in your industry? Have a listen.

Source: http://www.antonrsa.co.za/twitter/list-of-popular-tweeting-twitter-myths/

Twitter is a free micro blogging Web 2.0 service that enables its members to read and send messages known as Tweets. Tweets are short text posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to the author’s followers.

You can send “Tweets” via the Twitter website, your mobile phone, instant messaging and a couple of other third-party applications. Twitter is one of the most used and top social media channels available to anyone but most members misunderstand the real power of this excellent Web 2.0 tool. Find below a couple of popular myths regarding Twitter

Popular Twitter Myths

You can’t say enough with 140 characters: Twitter forces you to be short and to the point in 140 characters or less. This gives you about 25-30 words to say what you have to say. Many “Tweets” are summaries containing the titles of blog posts and articles that links back to the original content.

You should always answer the question of “what’s happening?”: Although this is the first question you will see when you are posting an update on Twitter, it’s really all about what you want to share with the world – content sharing. In this way it really has turned into a micro blogging platform that anyone can use to share interesting topics, discuss trends, notify others, etc.

Twitter is only used for shameless self promotion: Even though there’s thousands of Twitter members that uses it this way, spamming Twitter to generate traffic to your website and blog doesn’t work. Think of it this way, if you were doing this at a social gathering, people will walk away and excuse themselves. Respect goes a long way.

There’s too much information on Twitter: In most ways this is true, but you have total control over whom and how many that you follow. Keep your network focused and follow only those that you find meaningful, informative and interesting. Un follow the ones that you find to only Tweet meaningless babble.

People don’t care what video you are watching now: This is true, but they do care if you have found a great YouTube video that will help them with a problem they might be having. Always keep your Tweets confined to interesting topics that are helpful and that others will find interesting or you will lose followers.

Follow only those that are following you: No, only follow those that you find interesting and meaningful. Focus on quality over quantity. You can use Twitter to foster relationships and selectively listen to only those that you want to. It is not about getting as many connections as possible.

All your followers will read your Tweets: This might happen if your followers are following only a couple of people. Many people are following hundreds of or even thousands of people. You can only get an overview of the activity and Tweets that are occurring.

I need lots of followers to make a success of Twitter: Many people makes the mistake of believing that the only way to be successful on Twitter is by having lots – thousands of followers. They believe they will then be able to market their message to all of their followers. Yes it is true that if you have thousands of followers and you post an update that more people will see it, the real power of Twitter is in its real-time search engine. Have a look at Twitter search.

The Twitter search platform is most likely the best real-time search engine available today where you can search for anything in real-time what is happening on the Twitterverse. 99% of searches starts with a question. What if you can answer those questions in real-time?
